is the course about? |

This course aims to provide an overview on e-commerce, categorise it and examine its application to business, the physical and logical infrastructures, various security techniques and to describe the changes to organisations that becoming an electronic business will entail. In this course the learner will study the following An overview of e-commerce and business, the categories of e-commerce, including customer to business and business to business activities and examine its application to business, including customer transactions and shopping on-line. Physical and logical infrastructures that need to be in place for e-commerce solutions. This includes server infrastructures as well as database and transaction servers. The learner will also study client considerations, hardware and software requirements and business processes including internet applications and business application tools. Various security techniques such as cryptography including application of public and symmetric key encryption, PKI, digital certificates/signatures and network and application security including protocols and virtual private networks. Changes to organisations that becoming an electronic business will entail, including organisational changes, re-engineering, distributing information, sales and marketing, customer care and legal issues.
