Skills For Jobs

This project is funded by the European Social Fund via the Learning & Skills Council and is aimed at helping people who are not working, to gain the training and support they require to find suitable and sustainable work.

Potential clients do not have to be registered with Jobcentre Plus but they must not be doing any sort of work. As spaces on the Project are limited we ask the client to commit to at least a months attendance at the appropriate centre - Ilfracombe on Tuesday, Barnstaple on Friday or Westward Ho! on Thursday.

During this time the client will complete a Numeracy and Literacy assessment and appropriate certificate, set up an email account and train in using it, along with use of the Internet (if needed), prepare a competent CV, start other ICT training as required, use the Internet for job search and researching local labour markets, etc. These activities are all tutor supported.

When the client has completed at least four sessions (one a week), suitable further training may be organised. This has so far included; CSCS Construction Safety Certificate, Chain Saw Licence, SIA Security Industry Certificate, NVQ in Horticulture, Fork lift Licence, etc. Payment for clients to enrol on these courses is at the discretion of Pathfinder and will be informed by the availability of work in the particular sector.

Clients that can obtain confirmation from an employer, of the offer of a job if the appropriate certificate is obtained, may be fast tracked through the process.
